Welcome to E&H MSP Math Grant

Welcome! Thank you for your participation in the Emory and Henry Regional Mathematics Professional Development Center (MSP Math Grant). The MSP Math Grant and the MSP Continuation Math Grant will offer professional development to 4th-6th grade classroom teachers served by Virginia’s Superintendents Region 7. The MSP Math Grant Summer Institutes will be held on the beautiful campus of Emory and Henry College, Emory, Virginia.

Over the course of the MSP Math Grant, two 6-day summer institutes will be conducted to improve student outcomes on the state mathematics SOL assessments. The Institutes also will assist 4th – 6th grade teachers in better preparing students for content changes in the 2009 Virginia Mathematics Standards of Learning. In addition, an academic year follow-up program will be offered through e-learning. The Neff Center for Teacher Education and the Mathematics Department of Emory and Henry College will provide and lead the mathematics courses and will also address pedagogical and assessment issues during each session.

I also feel that tests are necessary to determine the course of instruction.  We need to analyze the results more carefully and to use the results to better teach each student.  Remediation could be used more effectively when focusing on students' deficiencies.  This way we're not teaching them what they already know, but what they do not yet know.I do however, feel that many of these benchmark tests that are given are unnecessary.  The students are tested on each chapter or unit of study in…See More
